What a wedding dessert table has to do

A wedding dessert table has three jobs: photograph well, pace the evening and serve guests quickly. At a typical reception it has to move 80 to 150 plates of dessert in about 45 minutes without the display falling apart. The wedding dessert table guide covers the layout, the timing and the setup order. Set the table about 90 minutes before guests are invited to approach, and place the cake last, once every other dessert is in position.

Build the table around the cake

The cake takes the tallest position at the back center. Medium risers go either side, and an arc of small risers in front holds bite-size pieces such as macarons, mini tarts and truffles. Give each dessert type its own riser so guests see every option at a glance. The dessert display risers guide covers heights and spacing for a station guests want to photograph.

Grazing tables at weddings

A grazing table is a styled spread of cheeses, cured meats, fruit, crackers and dips that guests serve themselves. At cocktail-style receptions it can carry the meal. Place risers before any food: tall pieces for cheese towers, medium heights for fruit and bread, short risers for meats and dips. Anchor the large items first, then fill the gaps and group items in threes or fives. Start with grazing table setup tips and grazing board ideas from brunch to weddings.

Color and height for day and evening

White or clear acrylic disappears visually, so the desserts and food stay the subject at daytime receptions. Black anchors evening receptions and black-tie events. For reception buffets, read food display risers for wedding catering, and for evening events, corporate gala display setup.

Questions

How do you set up a dessert table?

Place the cake or main dessert on the tallest riser at the center back, add a medium riser either side, then an arc of four to six small risers in front. Set plates at the front edge, add florals last, kept 2 inches below the cake, and check the view from guest eye level. Step-by-step dessert table guide.

What is a grazing table?

A grazing table is a styled spread of bite-sized foods, such as cheeses, cured meats, crackers, fruit and dips, laid out across a table for guests to serve themselves at their own pace. It differs from a charcuterie board in scale: a board serves a few people, while a grazing table can serve dozens or hundreds of guests.

How do you set up a grazing table with risers?

Place the risers and stands before any food. Use tall risers for hero items like cheese towers, medium heights for fruit bowls and bread baskets, and short risers for meats and dips. Anchor the large items first, fill the gaps with meats and crackers, and group items in threes or fives. Grazing table setup tips.

How do you use risers on a dessert display?

Give each dessert type its own riser, so guests see every option at a glance. Leave 4 to 6 inches between risers, keep cookies and truffles at table level for easy reach, and use one riser color so the display reads as a set. Check the view from guest eye level before service starts.
